We Accept Colorado Medicaid in Colorado Springs, CO

Our office is happy to accept Colorado Medicaid! We have been accepting Medicaid since we opened in 1992.
In the state of Colorado, Medicaid covers exams and glasses for patients under twenty-one years of age. Medicaid patients twenty years old or younger are eligible to receive a pair of budget glasses that will be completely covered by Medicaid.
For patients who are twenty-one years old or older, Medicaid does not provide glasses and will only cover the exam. Glasses are not covered for patients over the age of twenty. This is not due to our office policy, but to the policies of Medicaid in Colorado. In some other states, Medicaid may pay for glasses, but in Colorado, Medicaid does not contribute to glasses for adults, no matter what office or eye doctor you go to.
Medicaid also covers medical visits for eye diseases like glaucoma or macular degeneration. If you know that you have an eye disease and will need to visit an ophthalmologist, it is often a good idea to visit an optometrist first so that you can get a referral and so that the ophthalmologist can have some extra information on your eyes before you even arrive at their office. We have diagnostic testing equipment at our offices and have many patients that coordinate their care between our office and their ophthalmologist. We are able to treat patients for glaucoma at our offices.
For some young children with high or quickly changing prescriptions, it is sometimes necessary to have multiple eye exams throughout the year. Sometimes a person with a high prescription who hasn't been wearing glasses cannot adapt if we give them their full prescription right away. If your child needs more than one appointment in a year or if it has been less than a year but they are having trouble with their vision, we'll be happy to schedule another covered appointment for you.
The same goes for lenses. Medicaid pays for polycarbonate lenses, which are thinner, lighter, and more impact resistant than the standard plastic resin (CR-39) lenses. Polycarbonate lenses also block 100% of UV light, and come with a scratch coating and a one year scratch warranty. There are other options for lens materials that are important to some patients that are not covered by Medicaid. Our office can help you get Transitions lenses that darken outside or high index lenses that are even thinner and lighter than polycarbonate lenses. There are also coatings not covered by Medicaid, such as sunglass lenses or anti-reflective coatings that help reduce glare. If you are interested in these options, you can use your own money to pay only for the upgrades and still use Medicaid to cover the base price of the lenses.
Medicaid is great about replacing broken glasses. If your child's frame from our budget selection breaks, we often will have an identical frame in stock that we can swap the lenses into. If we can't replace the frame or the lenses are unusable, then Medicaid will cover a replacement pair.
